Winter Grants from Ashfield District Council for Vulnerable Adults

Help with essential food supplies

Ashfield District Council has been allocated funding to support vulnerable adults access essential food supplies, if they have been negatively impacted by Covid-19. ADC is able to issue vouchers to the value of £30 per person, and a maximum of three vouchers between now and 31 March 2021.

To be eligible, the adult must live in Ashfield, and meet one of the criteria below:

  • Care Leavers aged 19-24 (to receive support through their Social Worker or Personal Advisor).
  • Young People aged 19-24 years old with an Education Healthcare Plan who are eligible for Free School Meals. This will be managed by Further Education Colleges.
  • The household is in receipt of or has made an application for Universal Credit, or other Income Related Employment or Support Allowance (ESA), Income or Jobseekers Allowance income based.
  • The household has no recourse to public funds.
  • Referred by a Foodbank or Citizens Advice Bureau after seeking debt advice.
  • Verified as Rough Sleeping or Homeless.
  • There is considerable in-work poverty (which may be temporary).
  • The household has been assessed by a professional as in urgent need as they do not have the means for essential food, energy or water.

If you know of someone who is struggling (either through work or a friend/family member/neighbour) and they meet the eligibility criteria, there are a number of officers who can issue the vouchers. The vouchers can be sent to residents via e-mail or text (or post if there is no other means), and can be utilised at nine different supermarkets including Morrisons, Asda, Aldi and Tesco. They’ll need to show proof of eligibility, so please encourage them to have this before they get in touch (wherever possible). Please get in touch by email to: healthandwellbeing@ashfield.gov.uk

Ashfield Citizen’s Advice is also able to issue vouchers. If the resident has longer term financial challenges, ADC recommends referring to them, so they can have a more detailed conversation and look to see if there is other support available that they may be entitled to. Contact details are 07752 099013 or adviceteam@ashfieldca.org.uk.
