Guidance for people supporting adults with a Learning Disability or Autism through Covid

 

The Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) has produced a comprehensive range of information, guidance and resources aimed at those supporting adults living with a Learning Disability or Autism.

 

Whilst the resources are primarily aimed at those working in Social Care, they can be used by anyone supporting an adult with a Learning Disability or Autism. The information is grouped into subject areas and includes:

 

  • Helping the person to understand the changes.
  • Social distancing and going out.
  • Maintaining relationships.
  • Staying well - infection control and good personal hygiene.
  • Supporting people with good personal hygiene and cleanliness around the house.
  • Personal protective equipment.
  • Covid-19 testing.
  • When to self isolate.
  • Contingency planning.
  • Not sticking to the guidelines.
  • Severe learning disabilty and behaviour that challenges.
  • Identifying health concerns.
  • Shielding and social distancing.
  • Going into hospital.

The collated resources include writtten guidance, information and advice as well as more interactive media such as a short video from Learning Disability England giving information about Covid and how we all have a part to play in keeping everyone safe.
