Ashfield Voluntary Action recognised in the Discover Ashfield awards

The winners of the 2021 Discover Ashfield Awards, celebrating those that have gone above and beyond in the community have been announced. A variety of awards were given including three new awards recognising the work and support given throughout the pandemic.

Manager of Ashfield Voluntary Action, Teresa Jackson, won the Best of Ashfield Award and Peter Robinson, one of our Trustees received a Carer Award.

Peter said, "...it was lovely to receive a carers award in recognition of the work I do to raise the profile of carers and I am also delighted for the opportunity to shine the spotlight on the work that AVA does in the community to support carers. Caring for a loved one can be immensely rewarding, but it can also be very hard. Were it not for the legion of carers dedicating themselves to caring for friends and family members, the pressure on statutory services would be even greater, and yet it is a role that rarely gets the recognition it deserves. The Discover Ashfield Awards acknowledges the vital role of carers in our community and I am honoured to receive this accolade."

The judging panel, which included Discover Ashfield Chair, Martin Rigley MBE, were faced with some tough decisions as there were many inspiring nominations, all of which have achieved so much in many different ways.
