For some years Ashfield Voluntary Action has run an Emergency Food Bank to support local people in need of a food parcel (mainly in Ashfield and Mansfield, but we will accept referrals across Nottinghamshire).
Most food banks in our area are run by faith or community based groups and tend to run one or two days a week. We set up our emergency food bank to work alongside these food banks, food share projects and soup kitchens. We provide enough food and a referral letter to 'tide people over' until they can access the food bank or food share project in their area.
Initially we had a small amount of funding which we used to buy food, but this is coming to an end and we need to make the project self-sustainable. We have been promoting the food bank and our need for donations and we have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the good people of Ashfield and Mansfield. They have really stepped up to the plate in the last few days to help support others. We would like to thank the following people who made donations to our food bank.
Staff at Ashfield District Council.
Yvonne at Mansfield CVS who donated her Christmas card money.
Callum, Liam and Scarlett, along with their Mum and Dad.
Staff at NHS Mansfield and Ashfield Clinical Commissioning Group.
Jules - a regular supporter.
Danielle and her family who are also regular supporters.
Thank you so much, whilst we are extremely grateful for these donations, we are struggling to keep up with demand. So next time you are shopping, please think of us and put an extra tin or two aside to support your local food bank.
