Making Dementia Friends at AVA

TURNING UNDERSTANDING INTO ACTION AS DEMENTIA FRIENDS...

On Tuesday 9th July, Sarah Taylor and our newly qualified Dementia Champion, Samantha Clarke, delivered a Dementia Friends Information Session at Ashfield Voluntary Action.

This lively session was attended by young and old with an age range of 20 to 76 who all enthusiastically joined in and showed a keen interest. Samantha Clarke said, "This was my first Dementia Friends session and I was bowled over by the enthusiasm of the group. I really enjoyed the session and genuinely believe that we helped to create a group of people who will be passionate about making their communities more dementia friendly in the future".

Sarah Taylor from Ashfield Voluntary Action said, "...the beauty of the Alzheimer's Sociaty Dementia Friends initiative shows that a small change can make a really big difference to the daily experience of people living with dementia and their families."

All the people who joined us on the day became a dementia friend and made a personal pledge to join the UK's biggest ever initiative to change the way people think, act and talk about dementia.

The sessions are free, last around 1 hour and can be delivered anywhere in Ashfield. If you are interested in becoming a Dementia Friend or would like to know more, please contact Sarah Taylor or Samantha Clarke on 01623 555 551 and we look forward to hearing from you soon.
