Remember, remember the 5th November - lots of fun at the Fall Aware and Loving Life Bonfire Party

Remember, remember the fifth of November……The ‘Fall Aware and Loving Life’ group will certainly remember 5th November 2019 when they had a Bonfire Night Party!

Nineteen group members and Friends of Ashfield Voluntary Action joined in the Guy Fawkes day fun at the Ashfield Health & Wellbeing Centre. The ‘Light the Sparkler’ game (a seasonal take on ‘Pin the Tail on the Donkey’) produced lots of laughter with a prize for the winner whose sticker was closest to lighting the sparkler, not forgetting a special booby prize for one lovely lady who managed to locate the board but not the sparkler!

After bonfire night themed word searches and apple bobbing, some of the group headed into the garden for sparklers. A typical damp and windy November day soon saw them heading back indoors for cream and marshmallow topped hot chocolate, hot dogs, parkin cake and bonfire toffee.

Stephen, one of younger volunteers said, "It was a wonderful experience to be able to come and help out with a lovely group of people. It was lovely to see everyone come together and socialise over interactive games. The smiles on their faces showed just what a wonderful group of people and what a great little party it was."

The Lifestyles service provides friendly and tailored support for people who have had a fall, or are at risk of falls. The service helps to build people's confidence as well as supporting strength and balance. This is achieved by gently encouraging people to keep moving by involving them in activities which appeal to their interests.

The service is funded by NHS Mansfield and Ashfield Clinical Commissioning Group. The NHS has commissioned us to provide individual packages of support for people who are at risk of falls. The Lifestyles service recognises that someone can lose confidence when adapting to changes in health and wellbeing. Our supportive service explores the different ways you can keep busy, keep moving, stay independent and continue to enjoy life.
