Important information on the Covid-19 vaccination programme

An important message on the roll-out of the Covid-19 vaccination programme...

Please see to follow an important message from Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Clinical Commissioning Group (the part of the NHS which plans and pays for health services in our area) on the Covid-19 vaccination programme.

You will have seen considerable national and international media coverage of the roll-out of the Covid-19 vaccination programme in the UK. This short briefing will make sure that you are up to date on the situation here in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

As you will be aware, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have been selected as two of the nationwide Hospital Hub sites that will be vaccinating starting this week. Initially the focus will be on patients who are aged over 80s and care home staff and residents, alongside hospital, wider NHS and social care colleagues.

We have been planning this vaccination roll-out for several months and last week held a simulation event to ensure that our operational model is robust. Colleagues from across the health and care system have been contributing to the delivery of these plans throughout their development and are confident that we have the appropriate plans in place.

Over the coming weeks, we will be opening Vaccination Centres across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire – these are sites outside of the hospitals with good transport links. We are also planning the opening of smaller Local Vaccination Services to enable even more convenient access for citizens to get vaccinated. Details on both of these other routes to the vaccine will be shared in due course – eligible citizens will be contacted and asked to make an appointment to attend these locations.

Details of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation prioritisation of groups for the vaccine can be found HERE.

If you are contacted by local residents asking about the vaccination you can direct them to the NHS’s website HERE or share the attached leaflet with them.

If there are specific questions about safety and effectiveness of vaccines then the information HERE may be of use.

Finally, it is important to note that this is a phased roll-out of the vaccine and it will take many weeks for all of the eligible groups to be vaccinated. Citizens will be contacted when it is their turn to be vaccinated and will be provided with all the relevant information then. You will not be able to get booked in for a vaccination by calling your GP or turning up at a hospital without an appointment.
