Monday 8th March is International Women's Day

Today is International Women’s Day!

This is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality.

The 2021 campaign theme is: #ChooseToChallenge - A challenged world is an alert world. Individually, we're all responsible for our own thoughts and actions - all day, every day.

We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women's achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world.

From challenge comes change, so let's all choose to challenge! So, hand up high to show you're in!

Sarah Taylor from Ashfield Voluntary Action commented, "I was born a little before the Equal Pay Act (1970) came into force.

Whilst we have made big inroads into equal pay, rights and opportunities, there is still some way to go. It is only by raising awareness that we can create the environment for change."

Teresa Jackson, Manager of Ashfield Voluntary Action said, "...I have challenged gender stereotypes for all of my life and I am pleased to be part of a movement which aims to effect change.

It is only when we challenge that we will make a real and lasting difference."
