The UK government has changed the way in which funding is going to be spent in communities. This will give local people the opportunity to help to decide how money is spent.
Kirkby (including Annesley, Nuncargate and Kirkby Woodhouse) is part of the national ‘Plan for Towns’ programme, with over £19.5m to invest in local people’s priorities, over the next ten years.
As part of this process, Ashfield District Council needs to gather the views of people who live, work, visit and learn in Kirkby. Money (75%) has been set aside for capital expenditure (for new or renovated community buildings and facilities) and 25% of the funding has been set aside for revenue (money to run services and for running costs). This can be for voluntary groups and for increasing police/Council resources.
Allocation and spend of the funding are being overseen by the Kirkby Town Board which is run by local people, for local people and you can read more about the board HERE. The board is supported by the Council which will hold the finances.
This funding is in addition to the £22m investment into Kirkby to redevelop the area around the railway station and the Pond Hole site off Ellis Street (West Kirkby Gateway & North Kirkby Gateway).
Ashfield District Council has created a poster about the fund, and an online survey to gather views. Paper surveys are also available if required.
The link to the survey is Kirkby Towns Fund Survey.
If a paper copy is required, please e-mail healthandwellbeing@ashfield.gov.uk.
The closing date for feedback is 02 June 2024.
