Ashfield District Council funding a green space at St Thomas's in Kirkby in Ashfield

Back in May, Ashfield District Council announced that they had an underspend in relation to a start-up community green space.

Supported by Ashfield Voluntary Ashfield, St Thomas's Church in Kirkby-in-Ashfield submitted a plan and budget to turn the church grounds in to a well-being garden and a re-wilded area. This community project is bringing together the local community, ‘Men in Sheds' and residents from a local nursing home.

Features will include a series of raised beds and a water feature along with natural habitats for wildlife.

This is an ambitious scheme which will eventually serve local schools and residents alike providing an oasis of calm in the town centre area. Much of the housing stock in the surrounding area is terraced housing and so the benefits of a community green space will be a much-welcome additional asset for people living in Kirkby.

ADC agreed the proposal and awarded St. Thomas's £6168.48.

Preparations are already beginning.
