Personal development programme for young people coming soon

The King’s Trust Team Programme is returning to Ashfield again in September, and they are excited to be delivering this 12-week personal development journey from Sutton Young People’s Centre. The Team Programme is designed to support young people to break down barriers, build confidence, and work towards their goals through a range of practical and engaging activities. What really makes the Team Programme stand out is:

Learning happens through doing – young people develop skills through team activities, community projects, work experience and a residential, rather than learning employability skills purely through worksheets or classroom sessions.

It develops the whole person – confidence, motivation, communication, teamwork, reliability and resilience are developed alongside employability skills

Young people have to work as a team – the group itself becomes part of the learning. Young people have to communicate, make decisions, take responsibility and work with people they may not initially know.

It pushes young people outside their comfort zone – the residential and practical challenges provide experiences that many young people may not otherwise have, while giving them the opportunity to recognise what they are capable of.

It has a real community focus – young people plan and deliver something that has a benefit beyond themselves. This gives the programme a genuine purpose rather than completing activities simply to meet a qualification requirement.

Work experience is built in – young people get the opportunity to experience a workplace and develop an understanding of expectations, communication and behaviour in a real setting.

There is a recognised outcome at the end – young people work towards a King’s Trust qualification alongside other learning and experiences.

It is particularly suited to young people who have disengaged from traditional education – the mixture of practical, social and classroom-based learning can provide a different route back into education, employment or training. The King’s Trust describes Team as being designed for harder-to-reach young people and focused on progression

Wrap around support from IAF mentors and free access to our youth hub to ensure their success continues after the programme ends.
