New Support Group for people living with FND

Living with FND can be physically and emotionally challenging. A new FND support group, set up by Diane Mee, aims to raise awareness of the condition whilst providing much-needed support for people across Ashfield and Nottinghamshire.

What is FND?

Have you been diagnosed with FND? Functional Neurological Disorder is a diagnosis where there is a problem with how the brain/nervous system is 'functioning'.

Whilst basic wiring is intact, there is a problem with how information is being sent and received to allow the body to function normally.

Whilst you can find out more about FND and life after diagnosis through FND Actionit really helps to have the opportunity to meet other people who are also living with the condition and understand what you are going through.

New FND Support Group

A new group, FND Ashfield & Notts Support Group, has been set up for people living in Ashfield and beyond. Sessions are monthly and provide a friendly and welcolming space to meet with others who understand the challenges being faced.

The group provides a warm, sociable and informal environment where you can meet other people diagnosed with FND and their loved ones. It's a chance to talk with someone who understands your situation, meet new people, and hopefully make new friends.

The group was set up by Diane Mee and you can find out more about her story and what led her to start the group by clicking HERE or on the image below. Diane felt that there was not enough support following her own FND diagnosis and wanted to help others in the same boat.

Everyone Active has been incredibly supportive providing a venue, Lammas Leisure Centre, and also offering people attending the group the chance to try new activties at the centre such as swimming and fitness classes with one of their day passes.

Next Steps for FND Ashfield and Notts Support Group - please help our campaign

Diane is campaigning for a wallet-sized FND booklet which will give information on symptoms, what do do if someone is having a seizure, helpful tips on living with the condition and a useful contacts section with information on pathways, mental health, emergency crisis numbers and space for your emergency contacts to be noted in a small wallet that folds down to credit card size.

We hope that this will be available in Hospitals, GP Surgeries, Community Hubs, Libraries and Neuro Rehab Centres.

How You Can Help

We need to make a case for funding so that we can pay for these mini booklets to be printed. If you could sign our petition than we can show how much these booklets would help people living with FND. Please click on link change.org to sign - it only takes a minute - helping us to help you.
