I know many of you are frustrated and worried about the number of bank branches that have closed in recent years, which makes it harder for you to manage your money. Age UK wants the Government to change the law to protect face-to-face banking services. And you can help make this happen by telling us how these closures affect you.
Will you help by completing this short survey?
Shockingly, Which? analysis found that nearly 6,900 bank branches have closed since January 2015. Age UK is really concerned that the shift to online banking has led to branches closing at this alarming rate, leaving many older people without the option to get the help they need in person.
Receiving banking support in person can be so important when managing your money. Maybe you've suffered a difficult life event, and you need a friendly face to guide you through the financial processes linked to this. Sometimes you just want to speak face to face with a person to get the answers you need. You should always have an offline option to do so and to get in-person support near your home.
The Government is reviewing face-to-face banking services across the UK. So we now have an opportunity to let ministers know how recent changes to in-person banking services have affected you – and what they should do to protect in-person support. Will you take part in Age UK's survey? It will help me show the Government and MPs the real impact losing face-to-face support has on older people – and the importance of changing the law. Now is our chance to get our voices heard and urge Government to protect in-person banking support for good.
Difficulties with accessing face-to-face support is just one example of how the rush to go digital is leaving people behind. Age UK is really grateful to everyone who has already shared their experiences of doing things online with my colleagues and they will keep in touch again soon with news about Age UK's new research on how older people are managing with our increasingly online world.
