HOSPICE UK has helpful information and resources on bereavement and coming to terms with your loss, as well as practical information to guide you through what to do when someone dies. Click on each of the links below for information, advice and resources to help you at this difficult time.

 

THE NATIONAL BEREAVEMENT CENTRE 

The National Bereavement Service provides practical and emotional assistance after a death. If you or a loved one is experiencing loss, you can access free support today.

At the NBS, you can find the following help: 

 

  • Registering a death and when the coroner is involved
  • Finding a reliable funeral director and how a funeral can be paid for
  • Prioritising who needs to be informed of a death
  • Help with understanding if you need probate and how to go about it
  • Information about legal tasks, whether you can do it yourself or you need a solicitor and the costs
  • Dealing with debts of the person who died
  • Support if you feel you are struggling with your emotions
  • Advice on how to support family, friends and colleagues with grief

CRUSE BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT

Grief can be overwhelming, you don't have to deal with it alone.

SUE RYDER

Online bereavement support - Sue Ryder connects people with the right support. Whether that’s information and resources, personalised text messages, qualified counsellors or a community of others with similar experiences.

Sue Ryder's online bereavement support gives you the opportunity to talk to others who are grieving through the online bereavement community. Their online Bereavement Community is a place to share experiences, get things off your chest and chat with people who understand. Through the community you can ask questions and get support from other bereaved people, share your story and emotions anonymously and offer advice and support to others. Sue Ryder also offers a service where you for can talk to an expert via video. Their online counselling service provides free, short-term support for people struggling with grief where you can talk to a qualified counsellor by video in the comfort of your own home. AtaLoss

AtaLoss was established as a charity in 2016, to ensure that no one in the UK should be left without support when someone dies.

Their mission is to change the culture of bereavement, so that every bereaved person can have timely and holistic support, to navigate their grief and changed circumstances for healthy outcomes. They do this by addressing the first three tiers of the adult bereavement care pyramid:

  • Raising awareness of the effect of bereavement
  • Providing a central signposting and information service for everyone bereaved
  • Training and equipping community support.

CHILDREN'S BEREAVEMENT CENTRE

The Children’s Bereavement Centre is run by a committed team of friendly, supportive and professional people who are passionate about helping children and young people to cope with the grieving process brought on by the death or terminal illness diagnosis that has a prognosis of a year or less for survival of someone close.

Although it is a natural part of life, the loss of someone close can be a distressing and overwhelming experience, especially for children and young people.

The Centre is open to children aged 3 to 18 and they offer a welcoming and safe environment for them and their families to receive the help and guidance they need at one of the most devastating times in their lives.

NOTT ALONE

It’s OK not to feel OK. Nott Alone gives local mental health advice and help for adults and young people in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, all in one place. The website focuses on all aspects of mental health and wellbeing, but includes an excellent section on advice, support and resources around bereavement and loss. SURVIVORS OF BEREAVEMENT BY SUICIDE (SoBS)

If you have been bereaved or affected by suicide, there is help available and you do not have to be alone. The website includes information about how they can help and support available to people who have been bereaved by suicide.

They offer a range of support services for adults over 18, which are run by volunteers, the majority of whom have been bereaved by suicide themselves. They also provide information through this site and their publications.

Their services can be accessed as often and for as long as they are needed. It doesn't matter how long it has been since your bereavement happened or what your relationship was with the person who died. If you feel you have been affected by a suicide and you would like to talk about it, they can help. Suicide knows no social, ethnic or cultural boundaries and neither do they.
