What is the MSK Service?

The MSK together service is a unique partnership of health organisations across Mansfield, Ashfield, Newark and Sherwood.

They have a range of specialist healthcare professionals including Physiotherapists, Orthopaedic Doctors, Advanced Clinical Practitioners and Occupational Therapists who can help you manage a range of problems like low back or neck pain, arthritis and any issue affecting your muscles, joints, bones or tendons which we call musculoskeletal (MSK) problems.

They aim to help people understand and self-manage any Musculoskeletal (MSK) condition through timely appointments, local therapy sessions and providing the right care at the right time. 

 

There are several ways for you to make use of their services:

  • Ask your GP reception team for a self-referral to our services without seeing your GP first.

PAIN CONCERN

Pain Concern is a charity working to support people living with pain and those who care for them.

They work to improve the lives of people with pain, professionals and anyone who cares for someone in pain.

Pain Concern produces web-publications, leaflets and self-management resources which are free to download. If you would like to order printed leaflets for individual use, please click HERE to go to their website where you can add information and resources to your basket and checkout free of charge. 

 

  • Web Publications and Leaflets
  • Airing Pain - They produce a podcast and radio programme to bring people in pain and top specialists together to talk about resources which can help.
  • Pain Matters - They produce a quarterly magazine (at a cost of £5) which contains news and features on self-management techniques, pain treatments and personal experiences of living with pain.
  • Helpline - They offer a telephone and email service to individuals in the UK through their helpline. Their call and email handlers are trained and skilled Helpline volunteers who aim to support and empower callers. Call on 0300 123 0789 or email help@painconcern.org.uk
  • Peer Support - the online community where you can talk to others who have a shared experience of living with pain.
  • Self Management - practical information and resources to help you to manage your pain including Pain Concern's Self Management Navigator Tool and 'Questions to ask your health-care professional' which has some suggested questions that you might want to ask.

THE BRITISH PAIN SOCIETY

The BPS is the oldest Pain Society in the UK, bringing together clinicians, academics, patients and carers to explore the complexity of pain and to help manage it better. They're passionate about putting people in touch with the very best support and advice so that they can make informed decisions about their treatment, learn about their pain and get better at managing it themselves.

LIVE WELL WITH PAIN

Live Well with Pain was created by a small group of health care professionals in England working in pain management, using a self management approach with their patients. Seeing how successful it could be, they wanted to share their approach with more people.

  • Real Life Stories to Inspire you - video clips of people sharing their experiences of living with pain.
  • Shortcuts - learn new skills for living well despite the pain.
  • Leaflets - download leaflets on pacing yourself, setting goals, ten footsteps on how to better manage your pain, how to sleep well with pain, how to manage setbacks and where medicines fit in.
  • Tools for professionals - Live Well with Pain has developed a rich collection of self-management tools and techniques for use by clinicians and other practitioners working with people with pain.
