Our Garden & Allotment

We are fortunate to have a lovely enclosed garden and attached garden room at the Health and Wellbeing Centre which is used by our gardening group all year round.

When the weather allows, our green-fingered gardeners enjoy getting outdoors and have made a wonderful job of turning our garden into a welcoming and beautiful little sanctuary. This is a peaceful and private space, and being sheltered, is a haven for local wildlife. It is the perfect place to watch the local bird population; especially our resident robin, and we all enjoy watching the antics of the cheeky squirrels!

When the weather is not fine enough to go outdoors, we have our well-equipped garden room. The perfect place for a cuppa and a chat. We have plenty of gardening magazines and books so plans can be made for better weather. We also have a wide-range of games, puzzles and books to keep you busy and there is always a friendly face for a cuppa and chat. Why not come on down and join us?

The gardening group meets on a Thursday afternoon from 1.00pm till 3.00pm and is free of charge. Whether you have green fingers, or a brown thumb, everyone is welcome.

Our Allotment

In addition to this, we also have an allotment on Harcourt Street in Kirkby-in-Ashfield. Prior to lockdown we cleared the site. Thanks to funding from Mansfield Building Society, our Next Generation volunteers constructed raised beds for the site and students from West Notts College designed a shed for us, which was then constructed by Next Generation. We also used funding for benches, a purgola and a polytunnel, so are all good to go. So if you are a budding Monty Don, or simply want to get a bit of fresh air, exercise and make some new friends why not give us a ring and find out more.

We are now re-grouping following lockdown and are looking for volunteers. Please note, that unfortunately there are no toilet facilites at the allotment, but we will always greet you with refreshments and a warm welcome.

If you are interested in knowing more about our allotment, or would like to volunteer to become part of our friendly team, then please contact Ashfield Voluntary Action on 01623 555 551, or email us on info@ashfieldvoluntaryaction.org.uk
