The Dementia Action Alliance is working towards creating dementia friendly communities in Mansfield and Ashfield and was officially launched on 15th May 2017 to coincide with Dementia Awareness Week.

This is a national initiative which aims to create more supportive communities enabling people to live well with dementia. The scheme aims to bring together local government, healthcare settings, voluntary and community groups, businesses, schools, the police and social care settings to all work together to better support people with dementia.

As  part of our committment to working towards Mansfield and Ashfield becoming dementia friendly, Sarah Taylor, Sam Clarke and Yvonne Hudson from Ashfield Voluntary Action, and  Lesley Watkins from Mansfield CVS are all qualified as dementia champions and can deliver dementia aware sessions to groups, organisations and businesses across Mansfield and Ashfield. If you are interested in AVA or Mansfield CVS delivering dementia awareness sessions to your group, please contact Sarah Taylor at Ashfield Voluntary Action on 01623 555 551 or by email to s.taylor@ashfieldvoluntaryaction.org.uk or Lesley Watkins on 01623 392444. The aim of the session is both to raise awareness and show how organisations and groups can make small adjustments which can have a big impact on people living with dementia and their carers. The sessions last between 45 minutes and an hour long and are delivered free of charge to groups.
