Other services - what's out there

Signposting is a really important, and valued, aspect of our work. Our place in the community and knowledge of local services means that we can direct people, both individuals and groups, to the support they need. Whilst other organisations also offer this service, we differ in three ways to bring extra support and added value to our service users.

• Firstly, we have the relationships, contacts and local knowledge on services, groups and activities in our area. This means that we are in a position to wrap services around the people with whom we work. This allows us to take a more holistic and joined-up approach which is better for our service users, particularly those who are vulnerable and have additional needs.
• We work differently. Referring people into other services can make a real impact on people's lives, however, the first step can be the hardest. If we feel that people need a little 'hand holding' to take that first difficult step we provide extra support (capacity allowing). This makes a huge difference in making sure that people access the help that they need.
• We develop and update information directories listing services, groups and activities for specific communities of need. The links below will take you to information on services which may be of use. At present AVA produces four directories:

1. The Cost of Living Directory - a comprehensive directory of services, resources and information all aimed at reducing the negative impact of Cost of Living increases. This useful little directory includes information on benefits, grants and schemes to make life a lttle easier.
2. The Directory for people living with dementia - supporting someone living with dementia can be very difficult, particularly if you don't know what services and resources are out there. Our Directory includes information on services and activities particularly aimed at people living with dementia and their carers in our area.
3. The Energy Saving Directory - a little local handbook listing the support and strategies you can take to reduce your energy bills.
4. The Homelessness Directory - a directory of support, services and information for everyone who is homeless or at risk of being homeless.
