Supporting people living with Dementia

Ashfield Voluntary Action is passionately committed to supporting people living with dementia and their carers. We also recognise the importance of raising awareness around dementia and reducing stigma, as more understanding communities improve the lives of people living with dementia and their families.

How does our work achieve this?

  • We provide Twiddle Mitts for people living with Dementia. To request a Twiddle Mitt or learn more please click HERE.
  • We provide free Dementia Friends Awareness Raising sessions to the community (an Alzheimers UK initiative). So if you are a community or voluntary group, or a local business we can book a session with you for as few as five people - we can even provide the venue free-of-charge. Ring Sarah Taylor on 01623 555 551 to find out more or book a session.
  • We can also signpost people living with dementia and their families into other services. To find out more please ring Sarah Taylor on 01623 555 551 or email s.taylor@ashfieldvoluntaryaction.org.uk
  • Information on groups supporting people living with dementia and their carers. To find out more click HERE.
  • Our work around patient engagement provides a platform for patient experience, concerns and issues to be formally raised with NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. To find out more about our work around patient engagement click HERE.

Activities and Services

As an organisation we aim to be as inclusive as possible. This has led us to provide activities which INCLUDE people living with dementia rather than activities FOR people living with dementia. Wherever possible, we will try to accommodate people with additional needs. If you would like to talk to someone about whether our activities will meet the needs of your loved one, please ring Yvonne Hudson on 01623 555 551. Please note, our building is accessible and has disabled parking.

Information and Advice

Do you look after someone? There is an excellent little handbook aimed at carers in Nottinghamshire, providing information on a wide-range of subjects all relating to caring for someone. The booklet is available from Nottinghamshire County Council, health care settings, libraries and community organisations (including Ashfield Voluntary Action).

Did you know that Dementia UK produces a wide-range of leaflets? Everything you need to know if you are living with, or supporting someone living with Dementia. To find out more please visit https://www.dementiauk.org/
