Supporting people living with Dementia

Ashfield Voluntary Action is passionately committed to supporting people living with dementia and their carers. We also recognise the importance of raising awareness around dementia and reducing stigma, as more understanding communities improve the lives of people living with dementia and their families.

How does our work achieve this?

Our Activities and Services

As an organisation we aim to be as inclusive as possible. This has led us to provide activities which INCLUDE people living with dementia rather than activities FOR people living with dementia. Wherever possible, we will try to accommodate people with additional needs. If you would like to talk to someone about whether our activities will meet the needs of your loved one, please ring on 01623 555 551 or email info@ashfieldvoluntaryaction.org.uk. Please note, our building is accessible and has disabled parking and toilets.

Information and Advice

Do you look after someone? There is an excellent little handbook aimed at carers in Nottinghamshire, providing information on a wide-range of subjects all relating to caring for someone. The booklet is available from Nottinghamshire County Council, health care settings, libraries and community organisations (including Ashfield Voluntary Action). It is also available as a digital copy.

Dementia UK also produces a wide-range of leaflets and advice resources that are available online. They cover everything you need to know if you are living with, or supporting someone living with Dementia, and even give some book recommendations to help break down the stigma around Dementia.
